International Society of Transverse Tibial Transport to Convene First Global Meeting in Chilean Patagonia

Surgeons and researchers from around the world will gather at Reserva Natural Huilo Huilo on April 8–9 to set a global consensus on TTT, review indications and complications, and launch the ISTTT Global Registry
Sioux Falls, SD — 10/07/2026 — The International Society of Transverse Tibial Transport (ISTTT) today announced its First Global Meeting, to be held April 8–9, 2027, at Reserva Natural Huilo Huilo in Southern Chile. The meeting will bring together surgeons, researchers and clinicians working to advance transverse tibial transport (TTT), a technique based on distraction histogenesis used in limb preservation, and the treatment of complex lower extremity conditions.
The two-day program centers on three priorities that will shape how TTT is practiced and studied worldwide:
-
Global consensus - working toward shared international recommendations on indications, techniques and patient selection.
-
Protocols, complications and research updates - reviewing perioperative protocols, managing and preventing complications, and presenting the latest evidence of clinical findings and research data.
-
ISTTT Global Registry of TTT - introducing an international registry to pool outcomes data across centers and build the evidence base for the procedure.
ISTTT was co-founded by two US academic orthopedic surgeons, Alan Yan, MD, FAAOS and Vinod Panchbhavi, MD, MBBS, MS, FACS, FAAOS, to foster collaboration among surgeons, researchers and clinicians and to establish standardized protocols that improve patient outcomes who otherwise may suffer from limb loss.
“Transverse tibial transport has spread quickly across many countries, but the field has lacked a common language and shared data for this emerging technique,” said Dr. Yan. “This meeting is where we begin to build both.”
“Our patients facing limb loss deserve care grounded in the best evidence we can produce together,” said Dr. Panchbhavi. “A global consensus and a shared registry are the foundation for that work."

The meeting will be hosted locally by Dr. Gonzalo Bastías and Dr. Patricio Fuentes, two prominent South American orthopedic surgeons in limb salvage. Reserva Natural Huilo Huilo, a protected temperate rainforest reserve in Chile’s Los Ríos Region, offers an intimate setting for focused scientific exchange.
ISTTT is also pleased to announce that co-founder Vinod Panchbhavi, will serve as the Society’s first-term President. He will lead ISTTT through its formative period, including the development of the global consensus and the launch of the Global Registry.
The First Global Meeting of the International Society of Transverse Tibial Transport will take place April 8–9, 2027, at Reserva Natural Huilo Huilo, Chile. More information is available at www.isttt.org.
